(Video) Zedd & Hayley Williams – Stay the Night
Quick on the heels of their September 10th release of Stay the Night, Zedd and Haley Williams have released their official music video to support the track.
Zedd is positioning himself as one of the most broadly creative artists we have seen in awhile, and it shows in more than just his music. This video keeps with his general perspective of shining the spotlight on his vocal talent, mixing in a dance number with some classical undertones. It’s high energy, at times even frantic, and fits the tune perfectly.

Calvin Harris & Alesso preview their new collab!
We’ve hearing this tune for months now, under many different working titles, and credited to a few different artists. The only thing we don’t know now is a release date. The track’s title has been confirmed as “Under Control,”is a production collaboration between Scotsman Calvin Harris, and Swede Alesso, with vocals from England’s Theo Hutchcraft, the front man from Burns. Alesso has been using the track in promotional videos for his upcoming Uprising tour. One must flashback to Alesso‘s set at Pacha NYC in March 2012 to remember the tracks first play, then just an instrumental.
Theo’s vocals begin over a set of simple and lighthearted cords. The bridge sees a subtle addition of percussion, and more complexity added to the previously simple chord progression. The chorus finishes, and the main melody takes over, unchanged since the first play. After a short and simple buildup, the track drops into progressive house euphoria over a grinding electro baseline. The drop is garnished with another vocal sample, while the instrumental continues underneath.
Unfortunately, there was no official release date or label posted along with the song’s preview. We will be sure to get this information to you as soon as we can get it ourselves. For now, enjoy this long-awaited preview!

11 Surefire Ways To Make Other DJs Hate You.
If you’re booked to play in a club or bar, the chances are you may not be the only DJ playing that night. You may be warming up for someone else, or you may be lucky enough to have someone warming up for you. Or you may be playing a night where there are several DJs, of which you’re only one.
A few good manners can go a long way, and conversely, there are things you can do that will nearly always result in you becoming unpopular, fast. So, slightly tongue-in-cheek, here’s our list of 11 surefire ways to upset another DJ:
1. Set up your gear all around the other DJ while they’re playing – Nowadays we all use different DJ gear. But don’t pull the mixer out, unplug things, shove the current DJ out of the way and basically be a nuisance to get your gear set up. Do it earlier, or know how to do it in a few minutes and do it once the DJ has put their final record on. Same goes for packing away: A new DJ will be nervous enough as it is while playing their first tune – don’t pull the mixer out and start unplugging things to add to their stress
2. Have a private party in the DJ box when it’s not your set – Standing behind the DJ air punching, inviting your mates in for a few shots from your “private bar”, treating the shady back of the DJ box as a secluded place to invite a member of the opposite sex for some fun – all will distract and upset the DJ currently playing, for sure. If it’s not your set and there’s no legitimate reason to be in the DJ box, stay clear or behave impeccably
3. Use the DJ as a cloakroom attendant – Constantly asking the DJ who’s playing to pass you your or your girlfriend’s bag or coat, wallet, cigarettes and so on is very annoying. Yeah, DJ boxes are a good place to store your stuff. Just don’t pester the currently playing DJ to be your personal bag monitor
4. Keep your drink near the equipment – We all know if you leave your drink unattended in a club it’ll probably disappear. And as you have access to the DJ box, you may be tempted to keep your (or worse, everyone you know’s) drinks in the DJ box. That’s bad, but keeping drinks near kit is an absolute no-go. So even if the only bit of flat space is right next to the DJ gear, don’t put your drink there. If it gets knocked onto the gear, you’ll be seriously unpopular, and quite rightly so
DJ crowd
Yes, everyone’s having fun. No, it’s not because you were born. So when your time is up, don’t plead for more from the next DJ.
5. Refuse to leave the decks – So your crowd are loving it, you’ve filled the dancefloor, and there are three records you really want to play that you haven’t had time to. But don’t plead with the next DJ to let you stay on a bit longer, using the crowd’s enthusiasm as your weapon. “Look at them, they love me, just these three more!” No! Imagine someone doing it to you. Be respectful and make sure you play everything you wanted to play in the time you’ve got
6. Change the record when the DJ goes to the toilet – So you may be asked to mind the box while the DJ disappears to the toilet. Incredibly, some DJs I’ve known take that as a cue to change the record! I don’t know if it’s drink or simple a #fail in the upbringing department, but if you’re ever tempted – just don’t do it! It’s indefensible
7. Play something the other DJ has already played – This one often happens through turning up five minutes before your set, with no regard for the music that has gone before you. Just ask to see what’s already been played! It’s the least you can do, for the DJ and the crowd. It’s arrogant not to. Conversely, if you’re warming up, don’t play all the big tunes. It’s not big and it’s not clever to attempt to steal the limelight this way
8. Ask the DJ something about every tune he plays – The poor guy has got enough to deal with just DJing and dealing with punters who want a piece of his time. Don’t hover excitedly behind him, talking to him about every single record he puts on. Let the man do his job! You can always ask later
9. Tweak the EQ for him – Come on! OK, he may have left the bass out by mistake, or the treble may sound a bit harsh to your ears, but it is the ultimate in disrespect to lean over and casually tweak the EQ (or volume) of another DJ while they’re playing. If you’re the resident and you have a guest DJ on, and you know how the system sounds at its best but the DJ isn’t adhering to those settings, tell them, don’t just correct it having not been asked for your help
10. Grab hold of him – So the DJ is playing a big breakdown, the crowd are going nuts, you’re lucky enough to be in the DJ box, and you get a sudden impulse to grab hold of the DJ and jump up and down, helpfully yanking his hands in the air as you do so. It’s just enthusiasm, right? The crowd love to see DJs having fun, yeah? Er, no. Complete #fail. Get out of the man’s personal space. He doesn’t know you very well, and he’s working
11. Stop his final record before the end – It’s the height of bad manners to stop a DJ’s final record as soon as the controls are handed over to you (or maybe worse, to mess with it). Just let it play out! It’s OK not to mix into it if you don’t want to, but at least let it get to somewhere near the end. Conversely, don’t take advantage of this rule by putting your last record on at 11pm if your set is 10pm to 11pm – be respectful of the next DJ’s time slot

Is Flo Rida’s new DJ “technology” the worst thing ever? Deadmau5 thinks so.
Flo Rida, as you’ll well know, isn’t exactly the most revered man in dance music. From chucking hissy fits and bailing on festivals to ripping off Diplo’s ideas and working with the likes of Pitbull, his musical credentials aren’t great. But Flo Rida isn’t only questionable rapper – he’s also a cunning business man. Case in point? Today, a video advertisement for Flo Rida’s latest venture started doing the rounds…and it’s a real doozy.
Flo Rida has put his name behind ‘Beamz by Flo’, “the hottest music technology to hit the market”. So what is it? As far as we can tell, Beamz by Flo allows you to ‘make music’ by moving your hands through laser beams pre-programmed with songs. As Flo himself puts it: “Whether your fantasy’s to be a rock hero, a DJ thrilling the crowd, or you just want to fulfil your dreams of playing the music you love, you have to try my Beamz for yourself.” You can easily “create your own remixes”, record and share your performances and do even more with the “DJ technology” add on (sold separately). In fact, Flo Rida’s so sure of the quality of his product that he’s offering 30-day money back guarantee. Just like all the best infomercials!
Not sold yet? There’s more to the pitch: “Why spend thousands of dollars on music equipment or frustrating music lessons when you can get Flo’s Beamz and perform your favourite music instantly?”, the commercial asks. Aspiring DJs everywhere will also be thrilled to hear that the Beamz come preloaded with floor-fillers like Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and Flo Rida’s own Whistle, for you to remix at your lesiure (you can peruse the full list of tracks over at the Beamz website).
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take for Deadmau5 to call Flo Rida out on his groundbreaking technology. “Well…fuck. so much for my career…the futures here. shit… save me an opening slot at least,” began a series of hilarious tweets from the famously bullshit-free producer. “Seriously though… at least at one point during that commercial shoot, Flo must been like “man… someone might see this… mmmnahhhhhhh fuckit,” he continued. “.@beamzmusic im in. ill sell out, i dont give a fuck. I’ll do your next advert. 7 million. cash. unmarked bills. #tourmoney”. Lower any expectations you might have and watch the advert for yourself below. It’s bad.

Goodbye Serato Scratch Live. Serato DJ With DVS is Here.
Just announced on Sept 4th, the merging of Serato’s DJ softwares has begun – bringing DVS support to Serato DJ with the launch of a new version of the program, 1.5. The announcement comes in tandem with three new pieces of gear: the Rane Sixty-Four mixer, a Pioneer DJM-900 SRT Serato DJ Edition, and the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 controller.
As many industry experts predicted, developing three different programs (Scratch Live, DJ, DJ Intro) would serve only to frustrate and bog down Serato’s development cycle – and that a unification between them would be inevitable. Today we get to see the complete plan:
October 2013: 1.5 Release – Vinyl and CDJ control added to Serato DJ for the new mixers
December 2013: 1.6 Beta – Beta DVS support for Sixty-Eight, Sixty-Two, Sixty-One, SL2, SL3, SL4
February 2014: 1.6 Release – Full DVS support for above mixers + soundcards
Serato is bringing their trademarked NoiseMap DVS technology from Scratch Live into Serato DJ, meaning that you’re not going to need new timecode CDs/vinyl, and that it will continue to be the same reliable engine that DVS users have grown highly accustomed to performing under pressure.
End Of The Line: Of note, the Rane SL1 and Rane 57SL will not be receiving DVS support – apparently the technology in the soundcards in each is too limiting to be supported in Serato DJ.
Watch Serato’s CEO Sam Gribben detail more information about the future of Serato Scratch Live, Serato DJ, and more in the video below:

Mental note: Don’t call Calvin Harris a sell out.
Calvin Harris may be the richest DJ in the world according to Forbes, pulling in double each year what Kanye West makes (indeed, Harris pockets US$300,000 a night at his residency at Las Vegas’s Hakkasan), but that doesn’t mean he’s immune to unkind words from a heckler.
As a video picked up by Mixjunkies shows, Harris lost his cool at a show at LIV Miami (a show he’d been particularly “excited” about, according to his Twitter feed). When a lady in the crowd heckled him, he stopped the music – his tune Feel So Close – and jumped on the mic to let the heckler speak her piece. The playful exchange quickly turned awkward when the heckler asked for “something original” – “that tune was an original by me, it’s my song,” Harris responded, before losing his cool: “Why do you come to a fucking Calvin Harris show where Calvin Harris is DJing and don’t want to hear a fucking Calvin Harris record, you dumb fucking bitch.”
The heckler was escorted from the club and Calvin got on with his set – before flying out the next day to play a (reportedly excellent) early show in Calgary, Canada, then jetting into Las Vegas for his Hakkasan residency later that night and backing it up with a set at Made in America in Philadelphia on the Sunday. He’ll be keeping up that typically-busy schedule until November, when the hitmaker touches down in Australia for the mega 2013 Stereosonic tour.
The lesson? DJs should probably avoid the microphone – and never, ever give the mic to the crowd.
