Master P Rips BET for Showing Fake Love to Prodigy
Last night (June 25), the 2017 BET Awards took place in Los Angeles, where they honored a slew of our favorite celebrities. The network also did a tribute to Prodigy of Mobb Deep, who suddenly passed away last week, but it was not met with praise from everyone in the hip-hop community. Master P was invited to the awards show, but decided to protest the network instead, as he feels they were showing fake love to the late rapper.
Posting a video to Instagram, the No Limit CEO can be heard going off on BET for honoring Prodigy, as he feels they never showed him any love when he was still alive.
“I’m at the BET Awards right now. I ain’t even going in, bruh. This shit ain’t even cool,” Master P said. “All of a sudden they celebrate Prodigy. Prodigy, last week, couldn’t even get in here. Couldn’t get backstage. Couldn’t get a pass. All of a sudden, when you die, you this big superstar. Why couldn’t we give the man his flowers while he here?”
The veteran rapper continued to vent his frustrations with the network, calling their sudden dedication to Prodigy “embarrassing.”

50 Cent, T.I. and Rotimi Hit the Club in ‘Nobody’ Video
On Rotimi‘s new song “Nobody,” the singer muses why some chicks still haven’t found someone to be in a serious relationship with. Recently he provided the hazy visuals for the song with 50 Cent and T.I.. The music video is directed by Eif Rivera.
As viewers walk through a bizarre compound containing a bed, stripper poles and chains, Rotimi continually sings the question, “How you got all these bodies/Still ain’t got nobody?” T.I. then raps about a heartless stripper who uses men for pleasure while 50 Cent raps with a fast flow to describe becoming entranced by a particular convincing stripper.
Last weekend, fans of 50’s hit series, Power, were able to watch the premiere of season four on Starz. Both 50 Cent and Rotimi are main characters on the popular show. Rotimi plays the character Dre while 50 Cent plays Kanan. 50 Cent’s acting chops were also recently complimented by Z-Ro when he claimed 50 would have played a more believable actor as Tupac in All Eyez on Me.

Wu Tang Clan have just shared a new track “Don’t Stop” off Mass Appeal Records’ upcoming Silicon Valley: The Soundtrack LP for the HBO show.
We recently heard another single off the project when with Hudson Mohawke and Remy Bank’s collab “Passports” and now we have the latest off project. it’s refreshing to hear some new Wu Tang in 2017, especially since it’s exactly what we missed from the iconic group as RZA delivers the incredible instrumental while RZA, Raekwon and Inspectah Deck hold down the bars. What Really Killed Prodigy? Cause of Death Remains Undisclosed
The entire rap world is now grieving the loss of Mobb Deep half Prodigy, a staple of 90s-era New York hip-hop. But as the family struggles to digest this untimely shock, the world remains unclear about what actually caused Prodigy’s death.
The death occurred at a Las Vegas hospital, where Prodigy (as part of Mobb Deep) were touring. The Queensbridge rapper has long suffered from sickle cell anemia, and appeared to be battling an emergency related to the condition. Sickle cell anemia is certainly a serious disease, though Prodigy managed to aggressively tour, record, and beef for his entire professional rap career.
He also appeared healthy in his early forties, with no signs of sickness. Prodigy passed away Tuesday at the age of 42.
All of which is raising some questions about the cause of death. Strangely, TMZ just leaked a rumor that the rapper ‘choked on an egg‘ while hospitalized. Exactly how (or if) that’s related to sickle cell remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, the family of Albert Johnson has issued a formal statement on the rapper’s death.
“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep. Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, he had battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”
More details as they become available.
RIP Prodigy: 1972-2017.

Vic Mensa Takes Shots at XXL Freshman Class in New Freestyle
Yesterday (June 13), we unveiled our 2017 XXL Freshman class, and within hours, plenty of people had already offered up their takes on our selections. One of them was former XXL Freshman Vic Mensa, who appeared to throw shots at the group in a new L.A. Leakers freestyle.
Attacking Prodigy’s legendary Alchemist-produced “Keep It Thoro” instrumental, Vic, who’s just released The Manuscript EP and has an album on the way, pulled no punches.
“Shout out to XXL Freshman slow class/I’m a dropout though, pick your crew better/I love you Vanessa but it’s time to do better,” Vic spit, renouncing his status as a XXL Freshman class alum and referencing XXL Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Satten.
As you can tell from the lyrics, Vic didn’t go out of his way to specify any one member of the 2017 Freshman class, which includes the likes of XXXTentacion, Kamaiyah, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Aminé, Kyle, Madeintyo, Kap G, Ugly God, Playboi Carti and PnB Rock. The freestyle appears to have been recorded before the cover was announced, but perhaps Vic had some insider info on who was going to be on it this year. Either that, or he’s dissing picks from another year.
Before coming at the XXL Freshmen, Vic threatens to slap rappers comparing themselves to the late 2Pac. “I’m tired of niggas saying they better than ‘Pac/Watch your mouth ‘fore I slap muthafuckas/My clip loaded no subliminal shots/I get at muthafuckas, I don’t act muthafuckas,” Vic spits.

The Lawsuit, Which Prompted DJ Snake’s Social Media Absence
One of the big talking points in EDM recently has been DJ Snake. Due to the recent lawsuit filed against him and Lil Jon for plagiarism of their smash-hit ‘Turn Down For What‘, his absence from social media has been noticed, resulting in constant coverage of the story in every which way.
Early last month, Snake cancelled his Hangout Music Festival performance and deleted his Instagram and Twitter accounts in which he had amassed a combined 4 million followers. After taking a much-needed break from EDM world, Snake posted the following tweet to his Twitter, which he has only recently re-activated.
The lawsuit, which prompted Snake’s social media absence, arose early last month. Hip-hop artist Freddie Gz announced that he would sue DJ Snake & Lil Jon for their track ‘Turn Down For What’, accusing the two of plagiarizing his track also named ‘Turn Down For What’. The lawsuit is spearheaded by Richard Busch, who successfully won a massive settlement for the heirs of the late, great Marvin Gaye over Robin Thicke’s track ‘Blurred Lines’. The family was awarded a whopping $7.4 million dollars.
With no news on where or when the court case will take place, fans are eagerly hoping the case doesn’t further hinder DJ Snake’s touring schedule.
