David Bowie Dies At Age 69
After an 18 month battle with cancer, David Bowie has passed away at 69.
BBC reports that Bowie’s son confirmed his death. The following message has been posted to his social media accounts:
“January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
David Bowie broke through in 1969 with his hit “Space Oddity,” and is regarded as an iconic figure internationally in the last century’s musical zeitgeist, as an influence in both the rock and roll canon, and as an early electronic inspiration. His most recent album, Blackstar, was released January 8.
Rest in peace, David Bowie. The stars look very different today.

Are you on SNAPCHAT yet?
2016 sure promises to be the year Snapchat takes over. Lots of DJs tell me they don’t like snapchat & don’t even have an account! That’s ridiculous. You have to keep moving with the times ladies & gentlemen, or else you get left behind and become that bitter DJ complaining about how he/she never gets booked.
Are you paying attention yet? CNN is, Taco Bell is (they kill it on snap btw), Fortune 500 companies, NBA teams, every big name brand is jumping on Snapchat. Have you? DJs need to look at themselves as a brand, build that brand like you’re “pepsi” or “dove” soap. Just look at how much DJ Khaled has been blowing up since he came on Snapchat. He showed people a whole other side of his personality & his popularity went through the roof! He went from that dude yelling on tracks to my mom asking me about him, Snapchat made him a household name, an inspirational beacon of hope! If you haven’t followed him on the pathway to more success (notice how I said more, lol) Make sure you follow him @DJKhaled305 (might be your best decision of 2016?!). Hope not! But don’t play yourself.
My personal snaps have jumped up in numbers drastically this past year (Want to follow me? Add by username: alexdreamz). Build up your stories organically, people want to see what you do in real life, don’t be annoying with too many promos, have a strategy but don’t come in with that overwhelming hard sell. People like a good balance and by a good balance I mean keep it low on the promo tip. Of course this is not going to help you become a superstar DJ or a household name, but it’s all part of the hustle. Small wins become BIG WINS! Remember that. We just launched our @clubkillers snap and people love to see a glimpse of what goes on inside our Las Vegas headquarters, hopefully you will too. See you on snapchat!

The Technics 1200 Turntable Is Back!
Revered by DJs for its high-torque direct-drive platter that ensured flawless mixes and incredibly precise scratch performances, the last version of the Technics 1200, the MK6, was released in Japan back in 2008. But today at CES Panasonic has revived the turntable with the new Grand Class Technics SL-1200G and limited edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE.
It doesn’t look like Panasonic has messed with the form factor of the classic SL-1200 for the new ‘G’, but there are some key improvements inside. Direct-drive turntables like the Technics SL-1200 have sufficient torque to get its platter spinning at the appropriate speed almost instantly. But vibrations in the motor which cause subtle speed fluctuations do take away from the vinyl listening experience.
With the new SL-1200G, Panasonic and Technics developed a new coreless direct-drive motor that’s lacking the iron core that’s often the cause of those speed fluctuations in the platter. And any remaining vibrations from the turntable’s electric motor are further suppressed and corrected using new processor-controlled rotational positioning sensors inside the SL-1200G’s housing.
The 50th anniversary limited edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE will be available this summer in a run of just 1,200 units. But from what we can tell the only advantages to opting for the premium version is a serial number plate on the base, and early availability. Because the SL-1200G won’t be available until several months later in late 2016.

Martin Garrix Responds to Spinnin Records…Again
The battle between Martin Garrix and Spinnin’ Records continues. In case you missed the story in 2015, let me bring you up to speed: Martin Garrix left the Dutch label and its management company, Music All-Stars, in August, but the split has been less than amicable since. Though Spinnin’ assured Garrix that they released ownership of his music, he still sued them and his former manager for not only his music, but for “misleading him” into contracts that weren’t in his best interests. Last week, Spinnin’ released yet another statement, saying not only would they retain licensing rights until 2017, but that Garrix also owes them for breaching his contract.
In this recent press release we received this morning, Garrix admits that he granted Spinnin’ a 7-year license to all his music up until the termination, but says he took even more legal action to confirm any obligations to Spinnin’/MAS. Should the court rule in his favor, they will be forced to compensate him rather than the other way around, as was previously stated last week. Garrix goes on to promise to release more evidence of his story, which will hopefully continue to sway public opinion to his side.
Read the full press release below:
Dear all,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my fans for their support and I wish everyone 2016 full of love and great music!
With reference to the statement that Spinnin’ Records’ issued a couple of days ago regarding my termination of the management agreement with MAS and my artist agreement with Spinnin’, I feel the urge to set the record straight on a number of things that are stated.
Spinnin’s statement is – to say the least – one sided and in any case incorrect in some respects.
Don’t be misled: further legal proceedings are initiated by me, not Spinnin’ or MAS, and the main object of those proceedings is to ask the court to confirm that I have rightfully terminated and nullified my agreements with Spinnin and MAS. If the court follows me in this it will be Spinnin and MAS who will have to compensate me and not as they now suggest the other way around.
My lawyers have issued a writ on 23 December 2015 and will release a more detailed statement in a few weeks setting out the details of the proceedings and the grounds for the nullification of the agreements with Spinnin and MAS.
For now, I only want to have said that Spinnin’ and MAS’ statement confirms yet again that it was absolutely the right decision for me to end my relationship with them. I really feel freed and relieved that I am as of now the rightful owner of all my music and that I can release it when, where and with whoever I want.
After getting back my music ownership rights under the pressure of the summary proceedings I have granted Spinnin’ a 7 year license on music previously released by Spinnin’, with revised conditions in my favour. This 7 year license is nothing more than a manner to safeguard – without litigation – the availability to all of you of my existing music and the music made by me in collaboration with other artists signed by Spinnin’.
I have a great team supporting me as always and with whom I can start the new year full of trust and confidence, with more new releases for all my fans and supporters.

After a very successful year, The pair who put out their debut album in 2015 delivered a massive one hour set live from SirusXM’s Electric Area on NYE. Love them or hate them, there aren’t a great many acts which found themselves in the right place at the right time in 2015 the way Jack U did.
